Thursday Night Football: Battle of the AFC East - New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills

Tonight on this season's second installment of Thursday night football features division rivals the New York Jets against the Buffalo Bills. The Jets will be visiting the Bills at the New Era Field with a kickoff time set for 8:15 PM Eastern Time live on CBS.

Both teams are coming off of Week 1 losses and are hungry for that first win. What better way to get a valuable win against your division rival? These have proven to be especially valuable when the playoff picture come around. The Jets especially would like a bit of pay-back after their post season aspirations ended in Buffalo last season. Jets Coach Todd Bowles has said "there is unfinished business left to take care of" in regards to tonight's game.

Tonight's game will also feature the NFL's color rush jerseys. However, the Jets are opting to skip participation in this event in service for the color blind. The Jets will wear their full white jersey with hunter green letters and numbers with the full white pants, white helmet, white gloves and white socks. The Buffalo Bills decided that they'd have a bit of fun taunting the Jets when the announcement was made by taking to their Twitter page and tweeted that "Everybody knows that you can't wear white after Labor Day."

Let's make it clear... Tonight's game is not a fashion statement. Both teams are on the hunt to get their first win of the season. Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan will be looking to make a statement to his former team especially to Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick who's record is just 1 win and 7 losses against a defense that was led by him. The game tonight will be an entertaining grudge match against these two teams. It could either go one of four ways. Either the Jets will win their first game of the 2016 season or they could be looking at losing the next four against the tough Chiefs, Seahawks, Steelers and Cardinals. The Bills could win tonight at home on prime time television or they too could be facing losses in their upcoming schedule against the Cardinals and the Patriots.

The Saga of Ryan Lochte Continues

Monday night was full of athletes taking to the prime time stage. United States swimming Olympian Ryan Lochte took to the Dancing with the Stars stage just weeks after admitting that he and his teammates "over-exaggerated" the events that happened in Rio the night he said that he and three of his teammates were held up at gun point. After review by the United States Swimming Board, Lochte is now facing a ten-month suspension and has lost a number of endorsement deals as a result of these actions.

Lochte has thus been trying to repair his tarnished reputation and has started with competing on Dancing With The Stars. After his dance, two Anti-Lochte protesters stormed the Dancing with the Stars stage screaming and were visibly upset with the swimmer during the scoring portion of the show. The Dancing with the Stars security team immediately responded to the protesters and escorted them out of the studio. The protesters were then arrested and charged with misdemeanor trespassing charges.

When the protesters were asked why did they feel so strongly about Ryan Lochte. They responded "He does not represent the United States... he embarrassed the United States on a world stage and we don't take that lightly."

Since then, the Dancing with the Stars security team has said they will be reevaluating the security protocol and will make any changes deemed necessary.

Colin Kaepernick Refuses To Back Down

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick chose to remain seated during the playing of the National Anthem at the preseason game featuring the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packets. Kaepernick could be dressed in his uniform seating on the sideline benches while the anthem was played.

Has this caused controversy in the sports world? You bet it. When asked in the post game interview why he did not stand, Kaepernick replied 'I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.'

This response comes at a time when tensions between races is particularly high in the United States. Firstly, we have numerous black men that have been victims of extreme and fatal violence by the police. We have a Presidential candidate that is adding fuel to the flame claiming that America will be made great again by preventing immigrants particularly Hispanic and Muslims from entering this country and has not focused his campaign on the Blacks and minorities in this country.

One could see why Kaepernick chose to sit during the national anthem. He was standing firm in what he believes in. Kaepernick was born to an African American father and a white mother but was adopted by a white family at a very young age.

Kaepernick has been subject to the backlash by teammates, former and present members of the Armed Forces that have served this country and by his fans. Fans have been so disappointed in their beloved Quarterback that has been struggling the past two seasons that they have begun burning his jersey calling it a shameful act to not stand and honor this country's flag during the playing of the national anthem.

Colin's response?

People are dying in vain because this country isn’t holding their end of the bargain up, as far as giving freedom and justice, liberty to everybody. That’s something that’s not happening.

Will Colin Kaepernick continue to sit?

He has said that "Yes, I'll continue to sit. I'm going to continue to stand with the people that are being oppressed."

The 49ers held a meeting over the weekend in response to Kaepernick's actions. It is believed that he may he released not just for these actions but because his productivity has been on the decline the past two seasons and he has undergone surgeries on his throwing arm. It seems as though the Kaepernick from the old days is long gone and his future is up in the air.

Kevin Durant To The Warriors

And it has finally been sealed and done. Kevin Durant will joining the Golden State Warrior next season. Durant had been expected to remain with the Oklahoma City Thunder but in a turn of events KD confirmed the move this morning via the Player's Tribune website. Durant cites his primary motive for the move as growth as a player. It has been reported that the deal is worth $54.3 million over two years. Durant will join none other than Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green next season.

Oklahome City fans are not taking their star player's move lightly. Reminiscent of when Lebron James made his announcement to move to Miami to join the Heat, fans all over Ohio were burning his jersey. Oklahoma City fans took to Twitter posting photos of Durant's jersey engulfed in flames as well calling him out for a tweet made in 2010.

Seems like KD decided to jump the bandwagon himself. None the less, this move will be beneficial to his career growth and he could definitely look forward to getting closer to giving himself the best opportunity to win.

Colin Kaepernick - Jets Saga

Superstar Quarterback Colin Kaepernick is on the search for a new team. Reports came out this week that the former starting 49ers Quarterback wants out of San Francisco and in with the New York Jets.
Kaepernick has been on multiple team's radar since his mid season benching came to a surprise to most as it was thought with the record breaking contract extension with San Francisco worth $126 million with $61 million guaranteed that he would be leading the team. Kaepernick was considered the face of the franchise with his incredible back to back NFC Championships runs. It seems once coach Jim Harbaugh left the team everything concerning Kaepernick went sour especially with the 49ers front office. Since then Kaepernick's performance has gone downhill.
The New York Jets have seemed to have found themselves within a sensible off season rumor. Jets Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for a franchise-record 31 touchdowns and is a pending free agent. However, both the Jets and Fitzpatrick have expressed interest in reuniting for the 2016 season.
Fitzpatrick's target receiver Brandon Marshall has expressed his desire that the Jets do not bring Colin Kaepernick in to take over Quarterbacking duties. During the 2015 season, Fitzpatrick threw to Marshall 109 times with 14 of those being touchdowns and for 1500 total reception yards. Marshall said 'I think he (Kaepernick) is good. My guy's Fitz. It's nothing against Kaepernick... I have my quarterback so I'm good.'
It would seem that the Jets would only be interested in acquiring Kaepernick would be through a trade or if come April 1, if he would be released. If he is released, this would save San Francisco $8.5 million of the $11.9 million due to him if the contract remains in tact.
This will be interesting once the 2015 season officially comes to an end this Sunday February 7, 2016 what the faith of Colin Kaepernick will be

Athlete Feature: Luciano Narsingh

Athlete Feature : Luciano Narsingh

Happy New Year ! I have been brainstorming many new ideas for the blog and The Athlete Feature is the first new feature on my blog.

My first athlete feature will be PSV Eindhoven's winger Luciano Narsingh. I recently came across Narsingh just a few months ago when I was watching my club Manchester United play in the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven. Narsingh scored an impeccable header goal against Manchester United. From that day I started following his career.

Narsingh has quite an impressive resume especially whilst playing for the Netherlands national team. He's represented the Netherlands professionally since 2012 and was also on the Under 18, Under 19, Under 20 and Under 21 Netherlands team from 2008-2012.

I think the other aspect about Narsingh that grasped my attention was his last name. Being that my parents are Guyanese, certain surnames you know are in the South American region. Narsingh's family are of Surinamese descent which is located just East of Guyana. Having always wanted to see someone from this region raise and make a name for themselves in sports, this is where Narsingh shines.

Narsingh is a right winger but can also play on the left wing and as an attacker in the midfield.

Expect to see great things from this young man in the coming years.

New York Jets Crash And Burn In Buffalo

In Week 17 of the 2015 NFL season, the Jets headed to Orchard Park, New York to take on AFC East division rivals the Buffalo Bills. A wildcard playoff was spot was up for grabs with a Jets win. With a plethora of turnovers and bad play calling, the post season hopes ended in Ralph Wilson Stadium.

The Jets went into Week 17 hoping to avenge their loss to Buffalo and former head coach Rex Ryan. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick's three interceptions proved costly in the Jets defeat.

The Jets loss makes this the fifth consecutive year that they have failed to punch their ticket into the postseason. The Pittsburgh Steelers clinched the final playoff spot in the AFC with their win against the Cleveland Browns.

The Jets have a lot of pondering to do during the offseason as to who they'll keep and who they'll let go. As a loyal lifetime Jets fan, I'd like to see a young, agile quarterback brought in (Colin Kaepernick).
